city wide city lights
Over theĀ first Cluster Weekend of 2010, a bunch of people got stuck into the City-wide City Lights projects that were going on. Andy Wright was in the thick of it, and gives us a snapshot of the weekend:
"Over the weekend I had the privelege of joining some of the other St Paul's crew getting involved with City Lights. On the Friday evening we got together for a bit of worship, lead by a bunch of muso's from different churchs and got inspired by a guy named Ant Watts. This guy is fully taking on the challenge of living out the gospel - he lives in an intentional community with a bunch of people from his church mixed in with people from the margins of society. I think the thought that stood out most is something that cuts to the heart of why we serve: when we serve, there's a power dynamic between the people we're helping and us. Jesus calls us to serve as friends, to increase rather than decrease their dignity. This can be a real challenge when we're dealing with people, and a real test of our motivation. Is it to serve or make ourselves feel better?
On the Saturday we had a briefing in the morning and began our days work out at St Pauls College in Ponsonby. The principal and the caretaker were really greatful to see us but the students were a bit more wary. We spent the day doing hedges, water blasting, rebuilding gardens and digging out stumps. The amount of work we got through in day was pretty impressive.
It'd be great to see what we could do with an even bigger turn out next year!! "
